ACCREDITATION FOR THIS ACTIVITY HAS EXPIRED

The purpose of this activity is to instruct participants on methods to incorporate into their practice new prenatal clinical diagnostic testing for fetuses with congenital heart defects and segmental aneuploidies. They will learn to identify the various testing options along with their benefits and limitations. This will aid in the management of women carrying such pregnancies through correct interpretation of test results.

Target Audience

Obstetricians/Gynecologists, PhD Clinical Geneticists, MD Medical Geneticists, Genetic Counselors, Pediatricians, Laboratory Professionals, and related healthcare professionals interested or involved in the clinical relevance of prenatal diagnosis.

Educational Objectives

The Utility of Array CGH in Prenatal Screening
1. Identify the yield of chromosome microarrays for cystic hygroma and common birth defects.
2. Describe the limitations of counseling for prenatally detected incompletely penetrant copy number changes.

After the Fetal Echocardiogram, What Next? Prenatal Genetic Testing for Congenital Heart Disease
1. Define the current scope of genetic testing available for evaluating fetuses with congenital heart defects.
2. Recognize the possible implications of genetic testing results in counseling families about fetuses with congenital heart defects.

Non-Invasive Prenatal Diagnosis for Aneuploidy: Now and in the Future
1. Review the present state of the art for non-invasive screening for fetal chromosomes abnormalities.
2. Describe the published results with "next-generation" sequencing as a tool for non-invasive aneuploidy assessment.
